Letting Go

Camp Week 1 of Carolina Cross Connection this summer was truly a blessing to me. Being in a new position has its challenges, but I can feel God guiding my every step. The six fellow staff members that God brought to me have been a tremendous blessing in my life already. I am very thankful for what God is doing in each and every one of their lives, and I am excited to watch them grow throughout the summer. 

As the Camp Director, I do not get to meet as many of the families that we are working for. However I did get to meet a few, and I cherish those moments more than I ever have. I was visiting a lady in McDowell county that the McDowell news did a news article on. This lady was full of the Lord's spirit, and it was awesome to see a genuine excitement and spiritual satisfaction in her eyes. Another interesting story from the first camp week was when I was in Bi-Lo buying some groceries. When I got to the cash register the lady behind the desk recognized the logo on the check that I handed here. "Are you at Camp McCall this summer?" She asked. I told her that I was and that I worked for Carolina Cross Connection. "Well about 5 years ago I was the camp cook for Camp McCall." Instantly we had a connection, and we talked for a few minutes about the Camp. It was a reminder of the far reaching impact that serving God has, because I met a woman at Bi-Lo that had in some way been impacted through serving God, through the ministry of CCC in particular.

Our worship theme for the summer is about letting go. Letting go of things in your life and letting God have them. I think this has been very fitting for me because I have a hard time of letting go of things and really trusting God with them. On Thursday night we let go of our futures, and it was extremely powerful to watch roughly 60 people lay their future plans at the foot of the cross. My future is very uncertain, and the thought of letting go of it entirely really scares me. This summer my goal is to really begin to understand what letting go of my future really means now, in 5 years, in 10 years, and etc. 

I am very excited to see all of the ways that God is going to move at Camp McCall in week 2. My prayer is that God uses this week to transform peoples lives, and that when they let go of all of these things then they have no choice but to hold on to God.

Ready, Set, Go!

This was my third time attending staff training for Carolina Cross Connection, but it was my first as a director. I had an idea of what to expect, but was still very nervous. Directors arrived to training a few days before everyone else to decide upon camp locations and to add two members to our staffs. Being a part of the selection process for this ministry was an exciting and humbling experience, as God formed and perfected each selection in his will. I am happy to  say that I will be serving as the Camp Director at Camp McCall this summer!

Being one of the leaders among the entire staff was a great experience. Being able to share your knowledge and experiences as a part of the ministry is exciting. For the first few days we began training, and all of the new folks were soaking it all in. Then on Monday night came staff selection. This is where the Directors and Administration go through the process of selecting the rest of each summer staff. With God's guidance, direction, and nudging, this process was complete by around 2 a.m. Being a part of this process was incredibly humbling to me, and God used this process to teach me many things about Him and myself.

My staff has come together already to begin sharing and spreading the love of Christ in the Camp McCall community. We have visited many people, and are on the verge of beginning our summer of serving Him. I am excited to be leading this group of people, but I am also grateful to know that I am not doing it alone. I know that God is by me every step of the way, and I know that I have the support of everyone who has faithfully supported me over the past few years. God has transformed my life through my summers working at CCC, and I cannot wait to see what he is going to do this summer!
